FAQs
What is The Workers’ Choir?
It’s a new venture of Bread and Roses Missouri, an organization that amplifies and elevates the voices of working people through the arts. The Workers’ Choir is an informal opportunity for working people to gather together to sing and socialize. We’ll explore protest songs from the Labor and Civil Rights Movements, and other movements here and around the world, as well as songs of peace.
Who can join?
ANYONE. We welcome anyone who wants to sing with us to any rehearsal. No audition is required. Come as you are, whether you are a seasoned musician or a shower singer!
Who leads the choir?
The choir is led by musician Celia Shacklett, find out more about Celia at celiaisrock.com. Emily Kohring, Executive Artistic Director of Bread & Roses, and Robin Harvey, United Media Guild, are here to lend support and help with planning. Thanks to Robin for finding us a space to rehearse in!
Where and when does the choir meet?
We will meet at the St. Louis Friends Meeting House at 1001 Park Ave. St. Louis 63104 on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month. Check out our schedule above! You do not need to be at every rehearsal. Come as your schedule allows!
Will the choir perform?
YES. We plan to have 1-2 concerts a year. We also will pop up at protests, rallies and other public events, by request and when we feel we should show up! We also plan to have the Workers’ Choir perform in the Workers’ Opera the weekend of October 9-11, 2026. Performing is ALWAYS optional for all participants. You can be part of the choir and choose not to participate in performances.
